Today's DRH - United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities
A day to reflect and to look toward the future

Today, December 3, is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, sanctioned by the United Nations in 1992 to (from IDPD website):
“…promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.”
Disability is part of the Social Development Issues portfolio under the United Nations’ Department of Economic and Social Affairs (Social Inclusion). Other UN work on disability include:
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities has a different theme each year, with materials and messaging designed so that people from around the world can be a part of the planned activities and share the messages that come out of them.
This year’s theme is “Amplifying the Leadership of People with Disabilities”, a topic just as vital for exploration and awareness-raising as themes of prior years:
“United in Action to Rescue and Achieve the Service Development Goals for, with, and by Persons with Disabilities” in 2023
“Transformative Solutions for Inclusive Development” in 2022
“Leadership and Participation of Persons with Disabilities Toward an Inclusive, Accessible and Sustainable Post-COVID-19 World” in 2021
